Built onto the lower slopes of Monte Ingino, Gubbio is another beautifully preserved medieval township. The town is one of steep, winding streets and fine Gothic architecture. Palazzo dei Consoli, built 1332-1337, is noted for the large flat space engineered for its construction on such a steeply sloping hill. The building houses the Eugubine Tables. In front of the Palazzo is theCathedral. Take the funivia (cable lift) up to the Basilica of St. Ubaldo. The funivia is an odd design. The Fountain of the Mad is said to induce madness in those that run around it three times.
