Orvieto’s old quarter is located at the top of a cliff-fringed hill. The Duomo is the obvious must-see of Orvieto. Absurdly large for such a small town (though due to an optical illusion resulting from design, somewhat smaller than it looks), the cathedral is distinctive and spectacular. The exterior; black, white and fronted with gold, is miraculous and stunning. The interior, meanwhile, is no less impressive, containing the Chapel of San Brizio, within which are brilliant frescoes of the Apocalypse, by Luca Mon-Sat 9am-12:45pm & 2:30-7:15pm, Sun 2:30pm-6:45pm.
