Start out by heading through the mountains to the small Pueblo Blancos (white village) of Zahara. From Zahara, the route leads over scenic Puerto de Las Palomas pass, one of my favorite driving sections in Spain. Following this lightly trafficked road as it winds, twists and loops back on itself with a sort of engineered poetry is sure to woo the most indifferent of drivers. Having crossed the pass, the driver then continues to Grazalema, distinctive for its stunning valley setting amidst the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park. Don’t try driving your car into the village, but park your vehicle and take to the narrow streets on foot. Continuing, the road then leads through the mountains to the village of El Bosque, before later arriving at Arcos de la Frontera, which with its fine cliff side position, is surely one of the finest Pueblos Blancos in Spain.
