Milford Sound (from Te Anau)

  • It  takes just under two hours to drive to Milford Sound from Te Anau.
  • The roadside scenery on the drive to Milford Sound is some of the finest in New Zealand. There are various opportunities to explore on foot:
    • Kea Summit Track || For enthusiastic walkers, Kea summit track offers a superb 1.5-3 hour hike (3.4km return), starting at The Divide shelter (on the main road to Milford Sound).
    • The Chasm || 20 minute loop walk. This very popular loop walk starts from the main Milford Sound Highway, 7.5km past Homer Tunnel, 108km from Te Anau.
    • Milford Sound Lookout Track || 10 minute short walk. Leads from the main carpark at the rear of the café.
    • Milford Foreshore Walk || 30 minutes. An easy  half hour loop walk also starting from the main visitor car park.  Great views of Mitre Peak
  • For a meal in Milford Sound, if you’re taking a cruise you may be able to have a meal pre-booked to enjoy onboard.  Alternatively, there is a small cafe at Milford Lodge.
