Wellington is New Zealand’s capital city. With a population of around 500,000, it isn’t large, but is dense with wonderful attractions, from its stunning harbour, to Te Papa Museum, the famous red Cable Car, the Beehive, Botanic Gardens, and Zealandia sanctuary. Definitely a place that can keep you busy, and also home to some of the country’s best restaurants.
- To get a feel for the city, you could walk from The Beehive (NZ’s iconic parliament house) to Te Papa Museum, with an optional ride on the Wellington Cable Car to the Botanic Gardens on the way.
- The Beehive to Wellington Cable Car base station: about 1.0km, or 15 mins walk
- Wellington Cable base station to Te Papa Museum: about 800m, or 10 mins walk.
- From Te Papa, it’s nice to continue walking along the waterfront toward Oriental Bay.
