Croagh Patrick (Saint Patrick’s Stack) is a 764m high mountain and an important site of pilgrimage, located 8km from Westport. Best climbed between April and September, around 2 hours up and an hour and a half to descend. On the last Sunday in July, thousands of pilgrims climb Croagh Patrick in honour of Saint Patrick who, according to tradition, fasted and prayed on the summit for forty days in the year 441.
