Urbino experienced a time of cultural pre-eminence during the renaissance period, and there is something about its grand sense of scale that resulted which is, simply, awesome.
- Palazzo Ducale is Urbino’s most prized possession. Built at the command of Duke Federigo da Montefeltro between 1444 and 1472, the site is UNESCO World Heritage Listed. Mon 8:30am-2pm, Tue-Sun 8.30am-7.15pm.
- Just across the square from Palazzo Ducale is the Cathedral, which is relatively new, having been rebuilt by a Roman architect in 1801 after the previous structure was destroyed by an earthquake.
