In central Christchurch, find:
- Christchurch CBD || At time of writing, the effects of the 2011 Christchurch earthquakes were still extremely visible in the CBD, but a stroll through the city can take in some interesting sights. Next to the Botanic Gardens is the Canterbury Museum. From there, you can walk past the extensively damaged Christ’s College and the Christchurch Art Gallery (closed for repairs) to Cathedral Square. A detour south will lead you to RE: Start Mall, a retail space that sprung up shortly after the Earthquake. A little further on, next to Latimer Square, is the Cardboard Cathedral, constructed as a temporary solution to the historical, earthquake damaged Anglican Cathedral on Cathedral Square.
- Hagley Park || The fine and enormous Hagley Park, located immediately next to the city centre, is a wonderful place for a stroll in Christchurch. Visit the Botanic Gardens, Christ’s College, or experience Punting on the Avon.
- Canterbury Museum || Admission by donation. Be sure the check out the Quake City attraction.
In the suburbs:
- Located right by the airport is the Antarctic Centre, an excellent Christchurch attraction well worth checking out.
