The most popular hike is a 1.5 hour, 5.4km trek to a viewing area below the glacier. In addition to the glacier itself, the local scenery is exceptional, and there a number of local walks to explore. Its worth visiting the local Department of Conservation visitor center to get a sense of what’s available. There are a lot of activities in the area, including various scenic flights, skydiving, a local kiwi viewing center and some commercial (artificial) hot pools.
