La Mezquita, or Mosque–Cathedral of Córdoba, is a World Heritage site, and in fact a Roman Catholic church. My understanding is that the site was initially a small Catholic temple, was subsequently built into a great mosque while under Muslim rule. In 1236, which Cordoba returned to Christian rule during the Reconquista, the structure was converted into a Catholic Church, and subsequently a Cathedral. A fascinating history, and a truly remarkable building – one of the finest of its type in the world.
