Just north of the town of Big Pine, the detour to the Bristlecone Pine Forest is highly recommended. Great Basin Bristlecone Pines grow here, including “Methuselah” – which at over 4,750 years old is believed to be 1,000 years older than any other tree on Earth. Note that Methuselah is unmarked to protect it from vandals. The drive takes 45 minutes each way from Big Pine.
