You can make out where Owens lake used to be on the drive between Lone Pine and Death Valley National Park. The lake has been dry since 1924, when its waters were diverted to the city of Los Angeles. There’s nothing to stop for here – but if you’re confused by why your map shows a lake that doesn’t seem to exist, that would be the reason!
